Job summary

Atkinson Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to provide scheduling, cost engineering, subcontract coordination, and general project administration on heavy civil projects. You will collaborate with project managers and superintendents to oversee sections or facets of the project.

The role emphasizes safety, budget control, and proactive communication with field teams, vendors, and inspectors. A related engineering degree and 3–5 years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related discipline (or equivalent work experience).
• 3-5 years of relevant experience on commercial/heavy civil construction projects.
• High degree of initiative, independence, personal responsibility, and integrity.
• Willingness to speak up, listen, ask open-ended questions, and learn from others.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (oral and written).
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Actively pursue safety training and embrace Atkinson safety culture.
• Participate in TRACK process; attend daily/weekly meetings and field inspections.
• Maintain strong relationships with craft personnel, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and the project team.
• Stay ahead of crew needs to maximize efficiency.
• Prioritize daily tasks based on deadlines and material lead times.
• Provide prompt, accurate information, notices, and requests to involved parties.
• Communicate clearly and professionally; be unbiased and precise.
• Investigate issues, ask thoughtful questions, gather input, and propose solutions.
• Track and update quantities for budgets, forecasts and reporting.
• Perform thorough invoice reviews and pay subcontractors/vendors on time.
• Prepare supporting documentation for change orders and requisitions.
