Job description

MHT Housing, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) developer established in 1990 to preserve and create high-quality affordable housing. Over the past 30 years, MHT has built a legacy of constructing and managing properties that revitalize neighborhoods and foster true community. Our high-quality developments challenge the stigma often associated with affordable housing, providing safe, attractive havens for families and senior citizens. Improving the lives of our residents motivates everything we do.

About This Opportunity

As a Construction Project Engineer at MHT Construction, you will support the project team through all phases of construction. This role is a hybrid of project engineering (40%), administrative support (40%), and field operations (20%). THIS IS NOT A REMOTE OR HYBRID POSITION. Working under the direct supervision of a Project Manager, you will assist with plan interpretation, contract documentation, cost tracking, and document management.

The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and communication skills, a client-focused mindset, and experience reviewing, analyzing, and resolving field construction and design discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Support: Assist the Project Manager with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) regarding budgets, schedules, plans, personnel, and subcontractor performance.
  • Document Management: Maintain up-to-date project information, plans, specifications, and addenda within the Procore software platform.
  • Contract Administration: Help assemble project manuals, define scopes of work, and prepare contract documentation from bidding through execution.
  • Cost Tracking: Distribute, track, and compile all bulletins and pricing for Project Manager review; provide updated unit prices to the estimating department.
  • Progress Reporting: Monitor and report on construction progress, work quantities, and engineering deliverables to the project team.
  • Meeting Operations: Attend project management meetings and accurately document Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) and Construction Manager (CM) meetings.
  • Client Relations: Respond promptly to client requirements, concerns, or requests throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent documented field experience.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of related construction industry experience, or successful completion of a relevant internship/co-op program.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Procore and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with MS Project or Revit is a plus.
  • Blueprints: Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications.
  • Core Skills: Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mobility: A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for mandatory travel to various job sites.

MHT Construction offers competitive compensation alongside a comprehensive benefits package:

  • 401(k) and Roth IRA with company match
  • Comprehensive healthcare plans
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and volunteer time off
  • Tuition reimbursement and continuing education/training
  • On-site health and wellness activities
  • Flexible work schedules and access to industry-leading technology

This is a full-time, in-person position based out of the corporate office, job trailers, or active field sites. Remote work is not available unless expressly arranged with leadership.

Fieldwork involves exposure to active construction environments, including variable weather, noise, moving vehicles, and uneven or elevated surfaces. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is strictly required at all times when outside the job trailer. Office environments require the physical stamina to sit for extended periods.
