Job summary

SpectrumCareers is seeking a Construction Project Accountant to oversee financial activities for construction and development projects from inception through closeout. You will ensure accurate job cost accounting, budget tracking, and timely financial reporting, with proficiency in Yardi and construction-related modules.

The role requires 2–5+ years in construction or real estate accounting, a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, and advanced Excel skills for reporting and variance analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2-5+ years of construction, project, or real estate accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience with Yardi.
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting, change orders, construction contracts, and project budgeting.
• Experience with construction loan draws and CIP accounting preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Manage project setup, budgets, cost codes, and financial records in Yardi.
• Monitor project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, and forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review, code, and process contractor, subcontractor, and vendor invoices.
• Maintain contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and commitment records.
• Prepare and reconcile monthly Construction-in-Progress (CIP) schedules.
• Prepare lender draw packages and supporting documentation.
• Track project expenditures and perform budget-to-actual variance analysis.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
• Ensure proper capitalization of construction costs in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare project financial reports, cash flow forecasts, and management reporting.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Development Managers, Accounts Payable, and Finance teams to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
• Maintain complete project documentation and support internal and external audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and system efficiencies.
