Job summary

Ajax Building Company is seeking a Project Accountant to support financial management of active construction projects across the Southeast. This role partners with Project Managers and field teams to ensure accurate project setup, contract tracking, and timely payment processing.

This is an early-career opportunity to gain hands-on experience in construction finance while working on complex, high-impact projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred (or relevant coursework).
• 1+ year of accounting or related experience required; 2+ years preferred.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; cross-functional collaboration with project teams.

Responsibilities

• Set up new projects in the accounting system, including job cost structures and project files.
• Enter and maintain subcontract, purchase order, and vendor information.
• Process and track change orders, ensuring accurate and timely updates in the system.
• Manage subcontractor and supplier compliance; collect and review required documentation prior to payment.
• Prepare and distribute lien waivers for subcontractors and suppliers.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and field teams to ensure accurate cost tracking.
• Process subcontractor payments and distribute checks per procedures.
• Maintain organized project documentation and files.
• Assist in tracking outstanding reports related to contracts, change orders, and compliance items.
