Job summary

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group family, seeks a Project Accountant to support financial management of active construction projects across the Southeast. This role partners with Project Managers and field teams to set up jobs, track costs, and process payments.

This position offers hands-on construction finance experience on complex projects and opportunities for growth within a large, diversified platform.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of accounting experience required; 2+ years preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Outlook, and Adobe; experience with construction accounting systems is a plus.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Set up new projects in the accounting system, including job cost structures and project files.
• Enter and maintain subcontract, purchase order, and vendor information.
• Process and track change orders, ensuring accurate and timely updates in the system.
• Manage subcontractor and supplier compliance, including collection and review of required documentation prior to payment.
• Prepare and distribute lien waivers for subcontractors and suppliers.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and field teams to follow up on outstanding items and ensure accurate cost tracking.
• Process subcontractor payments, including printing and distributing checks in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain organized and accurate project documentation and files.
• Assist in tracking and updating outstanding reports related to contracts, change orders, and compliance items.
• Ensure all accounting activities are completed accurately and in alignment with company policies and procedures.
