Construction Monitoring Program Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Construction Monitoring Program Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of a client-specific program consisting of multiple construction monitoring projects across the U.S. This role ensures seamless coordination between sales and technical operations while serving as the primary client liaison throughout project execution. The Program Manager oversees budget, scope, risk, change, and issue management for each assigned engagement, ensuring program delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
This individual acts as both a technical authority and business consultant, guiding internal field teams and collaborating with external clients. The Program Manager is also accountable for training, mentoring, and quality assurance across assigned construction monitoring projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Program Oversight: Leads the delivery of multiple concurrent construction monitoring projects under a unified program, ensuring consistency, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Client Management: Acts as the main point of contact for the client, providing regular updates, coordinating meetings, and delivering strategic guidance throughout the lifecycle of each project.
- Technical Leadership: Oversees the production and review of deliverables such as Construction Monitoring Reports, Pre-Construction Document Reviews, and Property Condition Assessments (as needed).
- Team Development: Trains, mentors, and provides technical guidance to field staff and junior team members; supports recruiting and onboarding of new staff.
- Operations & Execution: Manages project schedules, field staffing, and workload allocation to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
- Quality Assurance: Conducts technical reviews of reports to ensure alignment with scope, client standards, and regulatory compliance (ASTM standards and internal protocols).
- Process Improvement: Leads the development of report templates, new service offerings, and internal SOPs to elevate quality and efficiency.
- Collaboration with Sales: Partners with Business Development to align service delivery with client needs, supports proposal development, and may attend sales presentations.
- Vendor Management: Identifies and manages third-party resources as necessary to ensure program capacity and scalability.
- Financial Management: Manages budgets, monitors project profitability, approves invoices, and initiates change orders when necessary.
- Travel: Travels to job sites approximately 25% of the time for project oversight and client meetings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in construction monitoring, project management, or similar field.
- In lieu of degree, 8–10 years of directly relevant experience considered.
- Experience managing teams and working directly with clients in a consulting or technical services setting.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
- Deep understanding of construction practices, project lifecycle, and construction finance.
- Familiarity with ASTM standards and construction monitoring protocols.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to simplify complex technical topics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and field data collection tools.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
- Comfort with remote work and ability to manage distributed teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK CONDITIONS
- Must be able to travel by plane, car, or train up to 25% of the time.
- Must be able to access active construction sites, including climbing ladders, stairs, and walking uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and operate a computer/tablet for extended periods.
