Job Title: Construction Materials Testing Technician (Full-time)
Work Location: Atlanta, GA
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct diverse materials testing and some construction inspections, mainly in the field, with potential for lab work as needed.
- Support the company's CEI services for ensuring quality assurance for clients and projects.
- Perform moisture and compaction tests using Nuclear Densimeter or sand cone device.
- Obtain representative field samples and perform a variety of tests on concrete materials to determine temperature, unit weight, slump, yield, and air entrainment.
- Work in proximity to heavy construction equipment, requiring standing and climbing in and out of deep trenches, exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and dust, along with working in adverse weather conditions.
- Use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments.
- Report to the Engineer/Project Manager who reviews work through conferences, observations of work, and overall results achieved.
- Communicate with the public, other employees, vendors, management, and contractors to relay/review job progress, results of lab/field tests, and scheduling of work.
- Prepare test results documentation to relay job progress and describe unusual job site conditions.
- Meet scheduling and attendance requirements.
- Understand and interpret schematic drawings to locate and record where sampling/testing was obtained.
- Learn job-related material through on-the-job training and in a classroom setting regarding field and lab sampling and testing procedures.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Knowledge of the properties, characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of the materials used in construction.
- 1-5 years of experience in building construction, construction inspection, paraprofessional engineering work, or work involving construction materials testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments.
- Ability to carry required instruments and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat.
