Job summary

S&ME Inc. is hiring a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Staff Professional in New Albany, Indiana. You will work under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, coordinating field explorations, logging soil samples, and performing calculations and reports.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning, project variety, and growth within a supportive team. The ideal candidate has a civil/geotechnical background, 2+ years in materials testing, and a plan to obtain certifications within six months.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field or equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 years in construction materials testing/inspections (soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt).
Within 6 months, must obtain at least 1 relevant certification.
Active CMT certifications such as ACI Field Testing Grade I; ICC Special Inspector; KYTC certifications.

Responsibilities

Test and oversee inspections of materials (soil, concrete, asphalt) to meet specs.
Review plans/specs to ensure alignment before field observations.
Document field activities and test results daily using Metafield or similar systems.
Draft reports and proposals for smaller projects with thorough documentation.
Communicate progress and issues to management, contractors, and clients.
