Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. in Northern New Jersey is seeking a Project Manager to lead construction materials testing for commercial and residential land development.

The role entails supervising technician staff, coordinating field activities, bidding, and client meetings. The ideal candidate will have a related bachelor’s degree, 3–5 years of PM or field experience in geotechnical testing, and strong communication and multi-tasking abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or geology preferred.
• 3–5 years of field or project management experience in geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing preferred.
• Engineer in Training or Registered Professional Engineer preferred but not required.
• Experience managing a construction project backlog of $1–3 million.
• Experience estimating labor requirements for various construction projects.
• Some business development experience and ability to interact with clients.
• Experience managing construction/field staff a plus.
• Specialty testing certifications such as ACI, NECEPT, ICC are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction materials testing services for commercial and residential land development projects.
• Oversee and direct technician staff for earthwork, concrete, foundation, masonry, steel, EIFS, and pavement testing.
• Prepare and submit bids and proposals; attend pre-bid meetings.
• Conduct on-site inspections including soil bearing, compaction tests, concrete, and steel checks.
• Meet with clients and attend site meetings as needed.
