Construction Materials Testing (Engineering) Technician

Job description

Burgess Construction Consultants, Inc. (BCCI) is looking for experienced and entry-level Construction Materials Testing (Engineering) Technicians to join our team. Our “Engineering Technicians” will perform various observations and tests on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel and asphalt.

You will be part of a dynamic, growing, and supportive team - and your role is key to BCCI’s success. While your job duties may fluctuate day to day, here are the areas that are essential for a candidate’s success:

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

1. Under direction of senior technicians, staff professionals or project managers, a candidate must possess the ability to learn and assist with tasks and perform basic sample tests and observation of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel and asphalt.
2. Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a laptop or tablet device; submit findings accurately to a Project Manager.
3. Effectively communicate testing and inspection results.
4. Ensure that all testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.
5. Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
6. Maintain quality standards on all projects.
7. Transport materials safely from various job sites to the lab.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including overtime.
2. Must have a reliable vehicle for field assignments (vehicle: pick-up truck or large SUV).
3. Must be able to pass a background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. No experience required (related or relevant experience is a plus).
3. Ability to lift 10 – 60 lbs. and work outside for extended periods of time.
4. Valid Driver’s License.
5. Capacity to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS (One or More of the Following)

1. ACI – Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I.
2. ACI - Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
3. NICET – (Soils, Concrete, Asphalt).
4. TXDOT – Soils, Asphalt or other Certifications.
