Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Engineering Technician to support construction materials testing across Central Iowa. You will perform field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and steel, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

You will collect samples, document results, and communicate with contractors, project managers, and engineers. This is a contract-to-hire, onsite role based in Des Moines, IA with regular travel and 40–60 hour workweeks.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in construction materials testing or geotechnical testing.
• Experience with soil sampling, concrete testing, earthwork inspection, or NDT methods.
• Ability to read/interpret construction plans, specs, and shop drawings.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and lab testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and steel materials.
• Collect and document field samples for testing and analysis.
• Conduct foundation and reinforcing steel inspections to verify specs.
• Travel to multiple construction sites across Central Iowa.
