Job summary

S&ME is seeking a Construction Materials Field Supervisor to lead a team of materials testing professionals across multiple project sites in Wilmington, NC. You will ensure quality, safety, and client satisfaction while coordinating with project managers and services managers.

We value hands-on leadership, strong communication, and 2+ years of field testing/inspection experience in soil, concrete, masonry, or asphalt. ACI/ICC certifications are required or pursued.

Qualifications

• Requires 2+ years of construction materials testing/inspecting experience (soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt).
• Supervisory or management experience is required.
• Active CM industry certifications such as ACI Field Testing Grade I and ICC Special Inspector are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee field staff and assign projects; organize schedules with clients and contractors.
• Coordinate with Services Managers and Project Managers on project progress.
• Train staff in field testing and inspections; oversee certifications; maintain staff certification records.
• Lead safety initiatives; conduct safety meetings; enforce PPE usage and safety protocols.
• Ensure access to proper testing equipment and oversee calibration/maintenance; support QA activities.

About The Role:

As a Construction Materials Field Supervisor, you will oversee a dedicated team of construction materials testing professionals, managing daily operations across multiple project sites. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring project success through top-notch testing services, fostering strong client relationships, and enhancing operational efficiency. You will balance team management with personal project contributions, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency. Your leadership will be key in client coordination, managing multiple projects concurrently, and upholding the highest safety standards.

• Direction and Scheduling: Provide supervision and oversight to field staff, organize schedules with clients and contractors, and manage personnel for field assignments.
• Coordination: Frequently coordinate with Services Managers and Project Managers on the progress of current and upcoming projects.
• Training and Certifications: Train staff on field testing and inspections, oversee certification opportunities, and maintain a summary of current employee certifications.
• Safety: Lead safety efforts for field staff, conduct regular safety meetings, and coach staff on PPE use and safety protocols.
• Equipment and Quality: Ensure staff has appropriate testing equipment, assist with equipment maintenance and calibration, and support the Quality Assurance Supervisor.

About You:

• You have a High School diploma or GED
• You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical engineering or a construction-related field, a plus
• You have a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspecting of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
  • Experience in a supervisory or management role
• You have active Construction Materials industry certifications such as:
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils), a plus
• You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) in the English language

You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
