Job summary

S&ME, Inc. is seeking a Construction Materials Field Supervisor in Atlanta, GA. You will oversee field teams, coordinate with project staff, and ensure safety and quality across multiple sites.

The role blends leadership with hands-on testing and client relations, contributing to project success and site integrity. The ideal candidate has a Civil/Geotechnical background, 2+ years in materials testing, and active ACI/ICC certifications.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in construction materials testing/inspection of soils, concrete, masonry, or asphalt.
• Supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Active CM industry certifications (ACI/ICC) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise field staff, schedule work with clients and contractors.
• Coordinate with Services and Project Managers on project progress.
• Train staff on field testing and certifications, track certifications.
• Lead safety initiatives and ensure PPE compliance on sites.

About The Role:

As a Construction Materials Field Supervisor, you will oversee a dedicated team of construction materials testing professionals, managing daily operations across multiple project sites. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the success of projects by providing high-quality testing services, maintaining strong client relationships, supporting growth initiatives, and driving operational efficiency. You will balance team management with personal project contributions, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency. Your leadership will be key in client coordination, managing multiple projects concurrently, and upholding the highest safety standards.

• Direction and Scheduling: Provide supervision and oversight to field staff, organize schedules with clients and contractors, and manage personnel for field assignments.
• Coordination: Frequently coordinate with Services Managers and Project Managers on the progress of current and upcoming projects.
• Training and Certifications: Train staff on field testing and inspections, oversee certification opportunities, and maintain a summary of current employee certifications.
• Safety: Lead safety efforts for field staff, conduct regular safety meetings, and coach staff on the use of PPE and safety protocols.
• Equipment and Quality: Ensure staff has appropriate testing equipment, assist with equipment maintenance and calibration, and support the Quality Assurance Supervisor.

About You:

• You have a High School diploma or GED
• You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical engineering or a construction-related field, a plus
• You have a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspecting of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
• • Experience in a supervisory or management role
• You have active Construction Materials industry certifications such as:
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils), a plus
• You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) in the English language

You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
