Job summary

State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for Transportation Engineer Trainee (Construction Engineering) in the MESU, Rocky Hill, CT. Graduating engineers will develop skills in material evaluation and construction engineering, supporting highway, bridge, rail, facility, and municipal projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management by May 2027.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Engineer in Training license (if applicable) may be required or pursued during the program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining MESU systems (AASHTOWare Construction, Materials, COMPASS) and coordinate with MESU stakeholders.
  • Assist MESU, Construction, and Maintenance staff with materials testing and documentation to ensure QA program compliance.
  • Assist higher-level staff with maintaining laboratory accreditation and monitoring compliance.
  • Assist higher-level staff with timely and accurate material certification of completed DOT projects.
  • Support MESU and project staff in administering DOT QA program for materials.
  • Assist with revisions to processes and software platforms used to support these activities.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting of materials-related data.
  • Perform other duties to support the Division of Construction Operations.
