Position Highlights
  • Full time, 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday, first shift)
  • Location: DOT Headquarters, Newington, CT
  • Must travel for training, conferences, meetings, and field reviews
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license required
  • Eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, subject to Telework Policy
Responsibilities
  • Problem solve, recommend, and implement effective transportation solutions promptly
  • Contribute to safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public
  • Use computer‑aided design software (MicroStation) and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Access
  • Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates
Experience and Skills
  • Experience using engineering‑related computer software
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Access
  • Ability to multitask and manage large workloads
Salary and Promotional Opportunity
  • Year‑one salary: $76,307 annually (Transportation Engineer Trainee)
  • After one year of training, promotion to Transportation Engineer 1 with salary range $85,151–$104,720 annually
  • After two years as a Transportation Engineer 1, promotion to Transportation Engineer 2 with salary range $95,865–$123,809 annually
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline)
  • Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
    • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners
    • Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Degree in Civil Engineering (or other engineering discipline relevant to the position)
    • Grade‑point average of 3.0 or higher in relevant engineering courses
