Position Highlights
- Full time, 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday, first shift)
- Location: DOT Headquarters, Newington, CT
- Must travel for training, conferences, meetings, and field reviews
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license required
- Eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, subject to Telework Policy
Responsibilities
- Problem solve, recommend, and implement effective transportation solutions promptly
- Contribute to safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public
- Use computer‑aided design software (MicroStation) and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Access
- Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates
Experience and Skills
- Experience using engineering‑related computer software
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Effective verbal and written communication, including presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Access
- Ability to multitask and manage large workloads
Salary and Promotional Opportunity
- Year‑one salary: $76,307 annually (Transportation Engineer Trainee)
- After one year of training, promotion to Transportation Engineer 1 with salary range $85,151–$104,720 annually
- After two years as a Transportation Engineer 1, promotion to Transportation Engineer 2 with salary range $95,865–$123,809 annually
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline)
- Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners
- Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners
- Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or other engineering discipline relevant to the position)
- Grade‑point average of 3.0 or higher in relevant engineering courses
