Construction Manager/Site Engineer

Position Overview:
ASI is seeking a skilled and motivated Construction Manager/Site Engineer to oversee small to mid-sized construction and renovation projects for our life-sciences clientele. This role involves managing laboratory renovations, office upgrades, and utility improvements, including purified water systems, HVAC, nitrogen distribution, and other essential utilities. Project budgets typically range from $500,000 to $2,000,000. The Construction Manager/Site Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Leadership:
- Supervise and work directly with trade professionals, including fitters, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, riggers, and others.
- Provide day-to-day direction, ensuring tasks are performed safely and meet the client’s standards.
Hands-On Involvement:
- Participate in construction tasks as needed, applying your trade expertise to ensure quality execution.
- Act as a technical resource and assist in troubleshooting and resolving on-site challenges.
Coordination and Scheduling:
- Schedule work activities, ensuring seamless coordination between trades and minimal disruption to facility operations.
- Monitor progress to meet project timelines and adapt schedules as required.
Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and conducting routine checks.
- Write and sign off on any required safety permits: hot work, confined space entry, etc.
- Ensure all work complies with the client’s safety standards, OSHA regulations, and local codes.
Vendor and Trade Interaction:
- Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
- Act as our client’s on-site representative to manage contractor activities and ensure adherence to project scope.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect work to verify it meets specifications and the client’s quality standards.
- Address any deficiencies immediately and follow through to resolution.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Trade Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction management, preferably in life sciences.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry).
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of utility systems, including purified water, HVAC, and nitrogen distribution.
- Familiarity with construction safety regulations and industry best practices.
