Job summary

GFT is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY. Responsible for overseeing school construction projects, you will ensure quality and compliance across all phases.

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY to work on school construction projects. This role requires regular attendance in the New York office.

We oversee every construction phase to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

As a Construction Manager you will ensure quality and high standards of performance and compliance in both design and construction by all consultants, vendors, and others. You will make decisions and take action in a timely manner to expedite the construction process, correct mistakes and errors early, and handle coordinative, problem‑solving, and managerial functions for these projects.

Responsibilities
  • Makes decisions on phasing and scheduling of projects; prepares and/or ensures preparation of schedules for planning, design and construction.
  • Monitors schedules and takes appropriate actions to ensure that the project is completed on schedule and within approved cost limitations.
  • Provides ongoing interface with contractors, construction managers and the client on project issues.
  • Participates in the development and issuance of project procedures and policies; reviews and makes recommendations on procedures and policies.
  • Resolves issues and problems raised in field reports made by architects and construction management staff.
  • Works with architect/engineer of record regarding change orders, interpretation of contract documents, shop drawing submittals/approvals and other technical matters to ensure a structurally sound, code‑compliant and aesthetically pleasing facility.
  • Issues field memoranda or directives to contractors to enforce contract compliance.
  • Uses independent judgement to make on‑site decisions.
  • Reviews contractors’ claims or disputed work and advises senior management as to appropriate action.
  • Visits various job sites as required in performance of the above duties.
  • Performs other related tasks as necessary.
Education | Experience

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, architecture or a construction‑related field.
  • 5+ years of full‑time experience as a technical specialist in one or more construction and design‑related fields.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of contract documents such as specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to address issues as they arise and solve problems.
  • Organization and ability to manage logistics of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience in new, rehabilitation and modernization construction projects.
  • Driver’s license valid in New York State.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $110,000, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
