Job summary

Texas State University seeks a Facilities Planning Design professional to lead renovation and construction projects from planning through inspection. The role involves coordinating contractors, architects, and campus resources to ensure objectives are met, while applying codes and standards.

The position requires knowledge of construction practices, strong communication, and project management skills. A BS in Construction Science & Management or related certification is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project contract documents including change orders and addenda.
  • Meet with requesters to interpret feasibility and prioritize projects.
  • Assist in developing reports, plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Keep FPDC systems up to date and prepare plan review documents.
  • Coordinate activities of contractors and campus resources to support projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • This position is responsible for planning, designing, estimating, scheduling, directing, and inspecting small to intermediate-sized renovation and construction projects to ensure objectives are met.
  • Must have knowledge of: Construction trade standards, codes, regulations, and laws; university standards and construction materials; designing and CADD software; engineering practices and principles and mechanical theory; electrical theory; building trades practices planning, estimating, drafting, and inspection; advanced math; ADA and Life Safety regulations, codes, and statutes.
  • Must be skilled in: interacting with interpreting requests from a wide variety of clients, directing the work of others, work as a team member/leader, and negotiating personnel challenges; prioritizing workload; problem solving and decision making.
  • Must have the ability to: Read and interpret contract documents, technical manuals, complex schematics, blueprints and other instructions; identify poor workmanship; prepare clear, concise, grammatically accurate documentation and correspondence; assess renovation and major maintenance project scope.

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) with a Major in Construction Science and Management and/or a Certificate in Construction Project Management.
Job Description

Responsible for planning, designing, estimating, scheduling, directing, and inspecting small to intermediate-sized renovation and construction projects to ensure objectives are met.

Job Duties
  • Manage, monitor, and direct contracts with contractors, architects, engineers, consultants for assigned projects.
  • Plan, design, schedule, and estimate various requests for new construction projects, facility modification/renovation or major maintenance.
  • Develop specifications for goods and services by researching vendor data and referencing applicable codes, regulations and standards.
  • Prepare project contract documents including contract change orders and addendums.
  • Meet with project requesters, interpret requests for feasibility, and prioritize projects.
  • Assist in developing various reports, plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Keep projects current in FPDC .
  • Prepare plan review documents.
  • Coordinate activities of contractors and physical plant labor and resources to support projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
