Job summary

A public university in Texas is seeking a full-time individual responsible for planning, designing, estimating, scheduling, directing, and inspecting renovation and construction projects. The ideal candidate must have engineering or construction management education, strong mathematical and engineering skills, and proven experience in project management. Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and direct contracts with contractors, architects, engineers.
  • Plan, design, schedule, and estimate various requests for new construction projects.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on facility conditions, renovations, and repairs.
  • Develop specifications for goods and services based on vendor data.
  • Prepare project contract documents including contract change orders.
  • Meet with project requestors to interpret requests for feasibility.
  • Assist in developing various reports, plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Keep project files.

Required Qualifications
  • Engineering and/or construction management education, training, and experience.
  • Intermediate-level mathematical as well as engineering skills are required.
  • Ability to confirm plan accuracy, develop take-off from plans, ability to reference estimations resources, process accurate projects cost and manage step-by-step construction, renovation, and maintenance projects is required.
  • Knowledge of drafting tools/techniques, ability to draft using CADD technology, application of standard architectural graphic standards and principles are required.
  • Reading ability: Understand, interpret, and apply complex legal and technical documents, contracts for construction, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Communicate and negotiate project requests to a variety of clients including staff, administrators, faculty, students, and contractors.
  • Writing skill: Prepare clear, concise, correct reports, letters, specifications, CADD drawings and estimates.
  • Successfully interact with and interpret requests from a wide variety of clients, direct the work of others, work as a team member/leader, and negotiate/mitigate personnel challenges.
  • Facilitation skills. Experience using personal computers.

Job Duties
  • Manage, monitor and direct contracts with contractors, architects, engineers, consultants for assigned projects.
  • Plan, design, schedule and estimate various requests for new construction projects, facility modification/renovation or major maintenance.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on facility conditions, renovations, and repairs.
  • Develop specifications for goods and services by researching vendor data and referencing applicable codes, regulations and standards.
  • Prepare project contract documents including contract change orders and addendums.
  • Meet with project requestors, interpret requests for feasibility and prioritize projects.
  • Assist in developing various reports, plans, budgets and schedules.
  • Keep project files.
  • Other duties as assigned.
