The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX, seeks a Construction Inspector to inspect and document campus construction projects, ensuring adherence to contract specs and safety standards.
You will coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers and university staff to resolve issues, maintain records, and support successful project completion. A Bachelor’s in Construction Management and 4 years of related experience are preferred; OSHA 30 is required within six months.

Scope of Job
To inspect and ensure quality control and compliance of construction projects by monitoring and documenting construction activities, verifying adherence to contract specifications, coordinating testing and inspections, and assisting in resolving construction-related issues. Responsible for maintaining accurate construction project records, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and collaborate with stakeholders to support the successful completion of assigned projects.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education
None.
Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: International Building Code Certification and or a Building Envelope Certification. Technical certification, licensure, or apprenticeship in one or more building trades such as: Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing or applicable related trade.
Required Experience
Four (4) years of related experience in the inspection of complex commercial or institutional construction projects. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a one-to-one basis.
Preferred Experience
Experience in construction inspection obtained within a higher education, healthcare, or commercial setting.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), construction inspection tools (e.g., laser distance measurers, power tools, safety equipment), and mobile devices for documentation and real-time project updates.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to perform all required duties successfully. Office/industrial/construction environment conditions; some travel, evening, night and weekend work is required. Exposure to all weather conditions, especially to extreme temperatures. Possible exposure to chemicals and chemical fumes. Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards. May occasionally require working at heights, in confined spaces, around rotating machinery, energized systems, bio-hazards or chemicals. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and ability to follow construction contract documents. Knowledge of interpreting and evaluating construction drawings and specifications. Skilled in trade specializations, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical. Effective time management, customer service, and organizational skills.
