Job summary

The AES Corporation seeks an experienced Construction Manager to lead on-site activities for utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage projects. You will coordinate with EPCs, landowners, and internal teams to ensure safety, schedule, and budget adherence.

Responsibilities include daily safety walks, environmental and QA/QC oversight, and effective stakeholder communication to deliver high-quality assets on time. Willingness to travel and work on-site five days a week is required.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of onsite utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or substation construction management.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes and means/methods.
  • Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Science focused)
  • OSHA 30 Certification required or preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and be on site 5 days a week.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; Procore experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with safety department to prioritize safety goals.
  • Represent AES Renewables & Power values in communications.
  • Manage landowner communications and issues during construction.
  • Provide on-site monthly/weekly drone progress updates.
  • Identify and manage environmental and safety impacts with EPC.
  • Coordinate with DEQ, AHJ, and EPC on community concerns.
  • Lead project execution planning, scheduling, and closeout activities.
  • Manage on-site contract employees and verify time records.
  • Oversee contracts with primes and subcontracts, including change orders.
  • Monitor on-site progress against schedule; remediate gaps.
  • Lead daily safety walks and document findings; ensure deficiencies are corrected.
  • Facilitate meetings with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ensure QA/QC adherence and sign-off across milestones.
  • Coordinate with in-house engineering for field reports from third-party engineers.
  • Collect and upload third-party deliverables to data rooms or sign-off.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the safety department to ensure all safety goals are the highest priority
  • Makes certain that the company is represented in accordance with AES Renewables & Power corporate values.
  • Project Landowners: The CM establishes a transparent and respectful line of communication between the project construction team and the landowners. This involves regular interactions, updates, and direct contact to keep landowners informed about project timelines, impacts, and progress. Addressing landowner concerns during construction, the CM is the main point of contact for landowner issues, from dust and noise complaints to concerns about property boundaries and access. The CM must address these issues promptly and respectfully.
  • Manage on-site monthly/weekly drone photo progress updates.
  • Proactively identify and assist EPC in the Management of site environmental and safety impacts
  • Facilitate communication between the DEQ, AHJ, and the EPC on environmental community concerns and impacts.
  • Provides excellence in managing and delivering the project(s), in line with the company’s expectations.
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and manage, in coordination with the PM team, the project execution plan, including the project schedule; coordinate and host the project kickoff meetings; and prepare and manage an effective project closeout.
  • Manage and direct AES hired on-site contract employees (QC/Safety/Commissioning). Verify and approve time records weekly.
  • Work with the project management team to ensure the effective management of all contracts (prime and subcontracts), including change orders and documentation of variances.
  • Onsite owner’s representative monitoring of utility-scale solar construction completed by 3rd party EPC Contractors
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with 3rd party EPC Contractors
  • Manage the construction of utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects to the 3rd party EPC contract and permit requirements including schedule, budget, scope of work, deliverables,
  • Complete daily safety walks and submit a daily safety walk report into current project applied software programs. Ensure that any deficiencies are corrected.
  • Manage internal safety goals with 3rd party EPC Contractors
  • Attend internal and external meetings as necessary (e.g., daily, weekly).
  • Track project progress against the schedule and manage schedule remediation plans in coordination with the Project PM.
  • Discuss daily objectives with the third-party EPC contractor and promptly report perceived risks and any other issues/observations.
  • Verify and sign off on various construction milestones (civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and update internal tracking software
  • Ensure thorough and quality work by verifying items against scopes of work and design plans to minimize punch lists and deliver the best-in-class assets.
  • Verify 3rd party EPC Contractors adhere to QA/QC plans
  • Work with in-house engineering to provide information and attend job walks to facilitate reports from 3rd party independent engineers.
  • Collect third-party EPC deliverables and either upload them to an internal data room or send them to the appropriate team member for sign-off (e.g., test reports, progress reports, etc.).
  • Review draft invoices with 3rd party EPC Contractor and verify work completed.
  • First line of defense against proposed change orders; escalating to internal Project Manager as necessary.
  • Proactively communicate and manage an ongoing punch list with 3rd party EPC Contractor, managing the final punch list from Mechanical Completion to completion.
  • Review and approve EPC invoicing monthly with PM Team.

  • Ability to lead and complete physically rigorous site inspections before and during construction.
  • QA/QC, punch list creation and verification, and commodity tracking in all types of environmental conditions.
  • Extensive knowledge of Procore and its daily use.
  • Be able to operate Google Earth/ARC GIS software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years of onsite utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or substation construction management. (Large scale Power, Oil & Gas, Chemical construction project experience also considered)
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods.
  • Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred, but not a requirement.
  • OSHA 30 Certified
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing software and technology needs.
  • Must be willing to travel and generally be on site 5 days a week.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Procore is a plus.
  • Must be able to work in various climates and walk sites as necessary for inspections and other requirements.
  • FAA 107 license preferred. Training and certification will be reimbursed.
