Job summary

Willdan seeks a Construction Manager to lead multiple high‑voltage and renewable energy retrofit projects across the United States. The role requires full‑time nationwide travel on a 3 weeks on / 1 week home schedule, coordinating field activities, schedules, subcontractors, and client meetings.

  • Five‑to‑seven years of construction management with hands‑on field operations for high voltage and renewable energy projects.
  • Experience with data center substations, microgrids, and BESS is required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and quality simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent energy construction projects across the U.S. for high voltage and renewable energy projects.
  • Provide cost and constructability input during the design phase.
  • Coordinate submittals, schedules, subcontractors and field activities.
  • Lead construction meetings with subcontractors, APG teams, and clients.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (including 3‑week lookahead).
  • Ensure adherence to construction specifications, QA/QC, and safety standards.
  • Oversee project closeout documentation and as‑built drawings.
  • Capture and manage field redlines and ensure accurate project documentation.

The role requires full‑time nationwide travel with a structured 3 weeks on and 1 week at home travel schedule. Candidates must be prepared to travel to project sites across the U.S. The Construction Manager oversees several concurrent mid‑sized high‑voltage energy retrofit construction projects throughout the US. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years total professional experience that includes a wide range of experience in field operations and construction means and methods for high voltage and renewable energy projects, and will demonstrate success in the following skills and abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple concurrent energy construction projects across the U.S for high voltage and renewable energy projects.
  • Provide valuable cost and constructability input during the design phase.
  • Coordinate submittal, schedules, subcontractors and field activities.
  • Lead construction meetings with subcontractors, APG teams, and clients.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (including 3‑week lookahead).
  • Ensure strict adherence to construction specifications, QA/QC, and safety standards.
  • Oversee project closeout documentation and as‑built drawings.
  • Capture and manage field redlines and ensure accurate project documentation.
  • Maintain construction management software per company standards.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and ensure project success.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively nationwide.
  • 5‑7 years of construction management experience with strong field operations background for high voltage and renewable energy projects.
  • Experience with data center substations, microgrids, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the construction means, methods, and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and quality simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead teams, subcontractors, and client interactions effectively.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Capable of leading confidently in identifying, correcting and/or avoiding potential schedule, budget or quality issues; ability to make decisions while balancing cost implications to avoid disruptions in work or customer operations.
  • Apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee and subcontractor performance.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project goals with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Thorough understanding of company and industry practices, policies, and standards.
  • Desire and capability to lead others in the construction process.
  • Effectively engage clients in the construction process; respond to client concerns in an effective and timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills; capable of maintaining project documentation and working on multiple activities/projects at one time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders as needed.
  • Willingness to work in field environments across varying job sites nationwide.
Certifications Required
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • CPR/AED Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience reviewing and implementing construction specifications and drawings.
  • AutoCAD experience (drafting and redlining) is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with ESCO design and commissioning processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical, solar, and mechanical systems in commercial/industrial settings.
