Clevanoo LLC is seeking an experienced Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager to support adaptive reuse and multifamily renovation projects in Chicago. You will coordinate subcontractors, manage field staff, track schedules and budgets, and ensure compliance with local codes.
The role requires strong communication, site supervision, and collaboration with architects, engineers, and owners. Ideal candidates hold a degree in Construction Management or related field, with LEED exposure
Minimum 3 years of experience supporting construction projects, preferably with a general contractor, in a project engineer, assistant project manager, or similar role. Exposure to adaptive reuse, multifamily renovation, or comparable commercial work is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of Chicago building codes, permitting procedures, and local construction practices, and the judgment to elevate interpretations and decisions to the Project Manager.
Ability to coordinate subcontractors, design teams, and field staff and to manage logistics on urban projects without owning the client or contract relationship.
Solid skills in schedule updates, cost tracking, and document control, with issues raised to the Project Manager before they become decisions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear meeting minutes, logs, and stakeholder updates.
Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam).
Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
Experience with historic preservation or landmark building projects.
LEED Accreditation or familiarity with sustainable building practices.
Support the Project Manager through all phases of adaptive reuse and multifamily renovation projects, from pre-construction through punch list and closeout.
Assist with day-to-day coordination of subcontractors, suppliers, and the field team. Work closely with the superintendent, including regular site visits, to track progress, quality, and open items, and bring issues to the Project Manager.
Help track Chicago permitting, inspections, and code-related items. Prepare information for the Project Manager and flag questions rather than making code or compliance decisions.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, and trade partners on day-to-day information flow. Prepare updates for developers and ownership for the Project Manager's review. Client, contract, and commercial decisions stay with the Project Manager.
Run the RFI and submittal logs. Track shop drawings, expedite responses, and keep plan sets and project files current.
Maintain the change-order log. Gather pricing, backup, and status, and prepare proposed changes for the Project Manager’s review and approval.
Assist with subcontractor buyout, bid comparisons, and scope reviews during pre-construction, under the Project Manager’s direction.
Prepare and update project schedules as directed by the Project Manager, distribute them, and flag potential delays. Do not reset the schedule or direct corrective action without the Project Manager.
Track budget items, commitments, and pay-application backup. Identify cost or scope risks early and elevate them to the Project Manager.
Prepare and distribute meeting minutes, project status reports, and related logs. Follow open items through to closure.
Support punch list, warranties, as-builts, and closeout paperwork so turnover stays organized.
Contribute to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement on the project team.
