Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Construction Management Intern for a 10–12 week summer program in the Tulsa area. You will gain hands-on experience supporting construction projects, coordinating with engineers, coordinators, and field personnel while learning utility construction practices.

You’ll participate in planning, scheduling, site visits, documentation, and reporting, under mentorship and with opportunities to grow through training and project work.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering technology, civil/mechanical engineering, project management, or related field.
• Must have completed at least your freshman year.
• Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
• Preferred: minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in construction, utilities, energy infrastructure, or project management.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrated leadership through academic, extracurricular, or work experiences.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities.

• Support the review of project drawings, specifications, schedules, and permits.
• Observe construction activities and help document project progress.

Construction Management Internship Details

Working alongside experienced construction coordinators, project managers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel, you'll contribute to project planning, scheduling, field coordination, safety initiatives, and project documentation while developing a strong understanding of utility construction practices.

Day in the Life of an AEP Construction Management Intern

As a Construction Management Intern, you may:

Where You'll Work
