Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne is seeking a Construction Laborer-Utility Person to support its field operations. This full-time role requires strong physical labor, teamwork, and a commitment to keeping Fort Wayne's infrastructure safe and reliable.

You will operate trucks and equipment, perform maintenance on hydrants and mains, and take part in construction tasks using basic tools and materials. The position emphasizes safety, weather resilience, and collaboration with city crews.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in construction, utilities, or outdoor labor preferred.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy trucks, front-end loaders, and related equipment for utility operations.
• Install, repair, and maintain water and sewer infrastructure such as hydrants, mains, valves, and laterals.
• Perform construction and repair work using hand and power tools, concrete, mortar, and asphalt.
• Complete inspections, pre-trip vehicle checks, and routine equipment maintenance.
• Work closely with City crews, assist with training, and follow all safety requirements.

Schedule 7:30a.m. – 3:30p.m.

What You'll Do

You’ll support the City’s water, sewer, and stormwater operations by performing hands-on construction, maintenance, and equipment work that keeps Fort Wayne's infrastructure operating every day.

Key Responsibilities
