Job summary

Moorhead is seeking a detail-oriented Job Cost Accountant to join our accounting team. This role manages job cost structures, budgets, and reporting across active construction projects, ensuring costs are coded, reconciled, and reported to support project managers and leadership.

The ideal candidate will have experience with job cost accounting, ERP systems, and strong Excel skills, with attention to deadlines and the ability to collaborate with PMs and vendors.

Qualifications

• Experience with job cost accounting, preferably in construction or project-based industry.
• Familiarity with job cost/ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of WIP schedules, percent-of-completion accounting, and progress billing.
• Proficiency in Excel with analytical and reconciliation skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple job cost codes and deadlines.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with Project Managers and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Set up jobs, phase and cost code structures, and original budgets in the job cost system.
• Enter change orders and budget revisions.
• Code and post equipment hours, materials, subcontractor invoices, trucking, and fuel to the correct job and cost code.
• Allocate and reconcile internal equipment usage and third-party rental charges.
• Assist with monthly WIP schedules - cost-to-complete, percent complete, over/under billings.
• Support progress billing, pay applications, lien waivers, and retainage tracking.
• Reconcile job cost subledger to the general ledger.
• Assist with month-end close, year-end close, and audit requests.
• Maintain subcontractor and vendor compliance records - W-9s, certificates of insurance, 1099s.
• Run job margin, unit cost, and productivity reports; flag jobs trending over budget.
• Assist Project Managers on project performance & analysis
