Job summary

Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an Intern in Orangeburg, SC for hands-on construction experience. You will support project teams across bidding, design documentation, and field operations, gaining exposure to office and site activities.

You will assist with quantity take-off, layouts, RFIs, submittals, and coordination among owner, architect and subcontractors, while learning the engineering and technical aspects of projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology or Construction Management, Construction Technology.
• Knowledge of engineering principles.
• Knowledge of basic business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions and engineering/architectural drawings.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics or working with craft workers.

Responsibilities

• Assist with management of construction projects from bidding through completion.
• Participate in quantity take-off, layout, and shop drawing review.
• Maintain submittal and RFI logs and review RFIs from subcontractors.
• Coordinate with subcontractors & suppliers and attend weekly progress meetings.
• Assist with coordinating work between owner, architect & subcontractors.
• Assist during the bid process and review construction documents & specifications.
• Maintain field records and assist with costing, scheduling, estimating & project management.
• Cooperate with field project management and perform other duties as assigned.
