Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking undergraduate students for a hands-on internship in construction. You will work on both office and field tasks, learning engineering concepts and project management practices.

Responsibilities cover quantity take-off, layout, shop drawings, RFIs, subcontractor coordination, and progress meetings, with housing available in certain situations.

Qualifications

• Open to undergraduate students pursuing hands-on experience in construction.
• Relocation to remote sites may be required.
• Transportation is required to attend job sites.
• Work periods are 10-14 weeks; 40 hours/week.
• Housing may be provided in certain situations.

Responsibilities

• You will learn engineering and technical aspects of the project both in the field and in the office.
• Assist with quantity take-off and layout tasks.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and maintain logs.
• Review RFIs and maintain project logs.
• Interface with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Attend weekly progress and coordination meetings.
• Assist coordinating work between owner, architect and subcontractors.
• Assist during bid processes with subcontractor outreach and bid packages.
• Review construction documents and specifications.
• Review revisions and clarifications; maintain field records.
• Assist with estimates, budgets, value engineering, and constructability surveys.
• Help write subcontracts and purchase orders; assist with change orders.
• Assist with verification and approval of invoices; ordering and expediting materials.
• Support quality control, safety management, inspections, toolbox talks, and site logistics.
• Assist with managing subcontracts and permit processes.
• Support scheduling, estimating, and project management activities.
• Assist with monthly reports and project closeout.
