Job summary

STV is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector for its Water/Wastewater division in the Bryan/College Station, TX area. The role supports current staff while helping grow the W/WW Inspection practice to serve clients statewide.

You will observe and document large diameter W/WW installations, review plans, and coordinate with project teams, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of inspection or construction experience.
  • Broad expertise or unique knowledge in construction concepts.

  • Coordinate and observe large diameter water/wastewater utility installations and related construction activities.
  • Conduct on-site observations of materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, and safety precautions.
  • Review construction plans, encroachment permits, and related plans affecting projects.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss construction details and resolve issues with contractors and stakeholders.
  • May perform field measurements and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in coordinating materials testing and identify on-site problems.
  • Monitor non-conformance issues and progress payments for work completed.
  • Identify and recommend necessary contract or plan adjustments for field conditions.
  • Maintain daily diary and field records of materials and quantities used.

Job description

We have an immediate need in the Bryan/College Station, TX area for a Construction Inspector for our Water/Wastewater division. The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the W/WW Inspection practice to better service our clients statewide.

This role offers unlimited opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV's service offerings geographically, be involved in major transportation Water/Wastewater projects, mentor junior staff, all while promoting the culture of a healthy work-life balance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Under supervision, coordinates and performs observation of large diameter W/WW utility installations, excavation and backfill, tunneling, lift stations, and concrete buildings/structures construction projects according to the specific areas of expertise of the inspector; performs related duties as required.

  • Conducts on-site observations of construction installations, including but not limited to materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, minor concrete

  • structures, traffic control devices, and erosion and siltation control installations to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications, and with city and other governmental regulations.

  • Reviews construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.

  • Participates in meetings to discuss construction details and resolves issues with contractors and other project stakeholders.

  • May make field measurements. May ensure conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations.

  • Assists in coordinating materials testing. Identifies on-site project problems.

  • Observes reports and alerts appropriate members of project team on non-conformance issues. Monitors the correction of project deficiencies.

  • Identifies and recommends approval of necessary contract and/or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.

  • Maintains daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.

  • Calculates and recommends formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.

  • Investigates citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.

Specific Requirements:
  • Applicant preferred to possess a minimum of 5 years of inspection or construction experience.

  • Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses construction concepts skills.

  • Works on significant and unique issues and projects requiring an evaluation of intangibles.

  • Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among groups. Occasionally provides consultation and advice to management regarding matters of considerable importance to the functional area.

  • Exercises judgment to independently determine methods and procedures for completing new or special assignments.

  • Occasionally provides direct or indirect supervision to other personnel.

Compensation Range:

$72,399.00 - $82,272.00
