Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking construction inspectors to apply standard inspection procedures for ongoing and completed work, focusing on structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans. Night shifts are included, and TN visa eligibility is noted for qualified candidates.

Compensation ranges from $30 to $50 per hour, based on experience, education, and certifications, with benefits and ESOP. This is a field-based role requiring travel and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of construction inspection experience.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials.
• Experience in construction management/inspection situations relevant to job description.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, site layouts, specs and methods for compliance with laws and safety regs.
• Perform routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials.
• Measure dimensions and verify level/align/elevation of structures and grades.
• Gather and maintain record documents.
• Prepare daily reports and quantity measurements.
• Take field notes and calculations.
• Communicate with contractor and Resident Engineer about status and issues.
• Monitor project schedule.

JMT's Trenton Construction Services Team is seeking to add construction inspectors to apply standard inspection procedures for in progress and completed construction work for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes. Working hours will include night shifts.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation is $30.00-$50.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
• Performs routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Prepare daily reports and quantity measurements
• Makes field notes and computations
• Communicate daily with the contractor and Resident Engineer regarding status of work and issues
• Monitor project schedule

Required Skills

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 -5 years of construction inspection experience
• Knowledge and experience in construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials
• Experience in construction management/inspection situations relevant to job description

Preferred Experience

• Experience with NJTA, NJDOT, County and/or municipal clients in New Jersey
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or engineering Technology
• Client requested certifications (NJSAT, ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, TCC, CCTC)
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification or NICET II certification or ability to obtain within first six months of employment

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
