Construction Inspector (Part-Time)
Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Part-Time
Work Arrangement: Fully On-Site

Position Summary
McKnight International is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to support public infrastructure and capital improvement projects throughout the Houston area.
This part-time position is responsible for performing field inspections, monitoring construction activities, verifying compliance with plans and specifications, documenting project progress, identifying deficiencies, and supporting project teams throughout all phases of construction.
The selected individual will perform on-site inspections approximately three to five times per week and attend regularly scheduled project meetings.
Parks-related project experience is strongly preferred.
Requirements
Construction Inspection
- Perform field inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract documents
- Observe and document construction progress
- Monitor contractor workmanship, materials, and installation practices
- Identify deficiencies and non-conforming work
- Prepare inspection reports and communicate findings to project teams
Project Documentation
- Prepare daily inspection and field observation reports
- Maintain project records, site documentation, and photographic documentation
- Track project milestones and construction progress
- Support project closeout documentation and punch list activities
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Verify compliance with construction standards, codes, regulations, and contract requirements
- Monitor contractor compliance with approved construction documents
- Coordinate with testing laboratories, consultants, and project team members as required
- Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives
Meetings & Coordination
- Attend regularly scheduled project meetings
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, coordination meetings, and site walks
- Provide updates regarding construction progress, field observations, and schedule impacts
- Coordinate with project managers and project team members regarding construction observations and recommendations
Safety
- Observe site safety practices and document safety concerns
- Notify project personnel of observed safety issues
- Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements
Project Closeout
- Assist with substantial completion and final inspections
- Support punch list development and tracking
- Verify completion of corrective work items
- Assist with warranty walkthroughs and project closeout activities
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of construction inspection, construction management, field engineering, construction oversight, or related experience
- Experience inspecting building, park, site development, civil infrastructure, or capital improvement projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Experience preparing field reports and construction documentation
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in field environments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass all required background clearances
Preferred Experience
- Parks and recreation project experience
- Municipal capital improvement project experience
- Public sector or government project experience
- Building construction inspection experience
- Site development and civil infrastructure experience
- Experience supporting municipal, county, or other public sector capital improvement projects
Preferred Certifications
Construction inspection, construction management, engineering, safety, or related certifications are considered a plus but are not required.
