POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Construction Inspector at LJA Transportation, you will be responsible for possessing an understanding of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) construction contract documents, and CEI consultant processes and procedures. Primary focus is management of ALDOT and local government agency construction contracts for transportation projects, including but not limited to roadway, highway, bridges, and other structures. Projects may involve utilities, stormwater pollution prevention, temporary traffic control, lighting, signalization, drainage, asphalt and concrete pavement, ITS, earthwork, excavation, and other improvements.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE

• Observes construction work performed by others, ensuring accuracy with plans and specifications
• Interprets plans, specifications, and contracts for roadway, drainage, and/or structural highway construction
• Communicates through verbal and written means as needed for job performance
• Participates in project‑level meetings as required
• Meets with client as needed
• Conducts periodic staff meetings with inspectors
• Documents work activities
• Provides status reports to PM(s) on a routine basis
• Reviews and mentors work of other inspectors

REQUIRED EDUCATION / LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• ACI Grade I or NICET Level 1
• Storm water Inspection Certification

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years overall experience as an inspector for highway construction
• Ability to perform work on an active jobsite in a safe, proficient manner required
• Ability to represent LJA and its clients in a professional manner at all times
• Must have a clear driving record; a DMV check will be conducted

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Travel may be required
• Job sites will have uneven ground and will require walking/standing for long periods of time; possible climbing
• Work in inclement (hot/cold/rain) weather
• Work non‑standard hours/days, including some weekend or holiday work on occasion
