Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Construction Inspector in Bastrop, LA to assist engineers, monitor construction, and ensure adherence to project specs. Responsibilities include inspecting work, completing field logs, and maintaining data in DOTD systems.

Hours are 7:45 am – 4:15 pm, Monday–Friday. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED (or related experience) and be prepared for structured training and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance may substitute.
• Experience in construction inspection is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction work for compliance with policies, standards, specifications and project plans.
• Complete and process construction documentation such as field diaries, reports, and estimates.
• Enter, review, and maintain project data in departmental systems (e.g., MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager).
• Apply DOTD policies and procedures while working in the Project Engineer’s office and at construction sites.
• Serve as the primary construction inspector in assigned areas of specialization or certification.
• Determine material sampling requirements and verify materials, haul quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and support efficient project operations, including assisting other staff as needed.
