Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire a Construction Inspector within the Public Utilities Department. As a Construction Inspector you will review engineering plans/ specifications, perform inspection duties and quality assurance tests associated with construction, rehabilitation, and repair of complex water and sanitary sewer facilities in order to ensure compliance with City and State standards and to ensure use of proper methods and materials for construction.
The position may be classified as a Construction Inspector I or Construction Inspector II depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Minimum Requirements:
Construction Inspector I - Requires High School, or GED, plus two (2) years of progressive experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.
Construction Inspector II - High School or GED, plus five (5) years progressive experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities; or any equivalent combination of progressive experience and technical training which provides the necessary knowledge and experience. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.

Experience with Construction Plans and Specifications
Experience with project documentation and providing reports

Experience with Communication Coordination with outside agencies
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) inspector certifications in Asphalt Field Level I & Level II, Soils & Aggregate Compaction
Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion & Sediment Control for Inspectors certification
DEQ Stormwater Management Program Inspector certification
Special Instructions:
This is an Alpha one position you may be called to work when other city offices are in essential or modified scheduling.
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
