Duties, Responsibilities & Other

• This is an entry-level position performing quality control of VDOT Roadway and Bridges construction, including soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing to ensure contract compliance under supervision.
• Upon demonstrating required skills, candidates may be eligible for more senior positions.
• Performs materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.
• Reviews placement of and performs tests on concrete deliveries according to VDOT and ACI standards, including making cylinders for lab testing.
• Verifies construction of roadway and highway materials and placement for compliance with drawings, specifications, standards, and contract documents.
• With training, monitors and observes limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, storm drain installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, pile driving under supervision.
• Advises supervisors and contractor personnel on non-conforming tests.
• Records field measurements and daily production/test results, completes reports with testing forms.
• Receives and verifies materials delivery tickets for compliance.
• Works nearby on active highways, water/land bridges, marine barges, underground tunnels, and may include night shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma; Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience required.
• Pre-employment drug screening, background, and motor vehicle checks may be required.
