Description

Summary

Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects, performing tests on soils and materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. Inspectors may report to a client's employee and are required to travel and work in any part of the State. The role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to work night shifts when necessary.

Essential Functions:

1. Perform field inspections of construction and maintenance projects, including existing roadways, structures, and facilities.
2. Conduct and observe tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products, and industrial coatings.
3. Respond to data requests.
4. Participate in traffic control activities.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
6. Obtain necessary VDOT Certifications, including:
1. Soil and Aggregate Compaction
2. Asphalt Field Level I & II
3. Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
4. Pavement Marking
5. Slurry Surfacing
6. Flagger Certification
7. Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection
8. Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification
9. Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
10. GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
7. Obtain Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training.
8. Complete the Inspector's Daily Report (IDR) documenting daily labor, equipment, and materials.
9. Maintain daily progress photos of the work.
10. Fill out Force Account records for unresolved changes requiring work.
11. Maintain a Sketchbook with construction documentation.
12. Participate in reconciliation of pay quantities for progress payments.
13. Attend meetings as needed.
14. Participate in change order negotiations when appropriate.
15. Participate in CPM schedule meetings when appropriate.
