Job Description:

The services involve providing construction inspection related services to support Public Works projects such as roads, bridges, flood control, sewer, water, traffic signals, or airport improvements, as well as permitted activities within the Road and Flood Control District rights of way throughout Los Angeles County.

Desired Qualifications:

• Familiarity with and knowledge of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook) and the Standard Plans, with experience in their application.
• Knowledge of Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Ability to identify potential problems and propose solutions independently.
• At least 1 year of experience in road, bridge, water, sewer, storm drain, dam, reservoir, pump station, traffic signal, or utility projects.
• Ability to enforce temporary traffic controls according to approved plans and MUTCD Chapter 6.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Under supervision from PW Section Heads, Area Supervisors, Head Construction Inspectors, Resident Engineers, or Construction Managers, the Construction Inspector I may work on individual projects or as an extension of PW staff on various public works projects or in permit offices.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing construction inspection, oversight, and enforcement of contract/permit documents.
• Arranging material testing and construction staking.
• Responding to inquiries from the public, officials, and other agencies.
• Coordinating communication among stakeholders, maintaining records, and managing contract/admin tasks.
• Preparing documentation for change orders, daily logs, reports, and as-built plans.
• Maintaining effective relationships with Department staff.
• Monitoring safety compliance and construction activities to ensure proper right-of-way maintenance and restoration.
• Rejecting non-compliant work and issuing notices for deficiencies.
