Job summary

Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C. is seeking full-time Construction Inspectors and Engineers for projects in the Hudson Valley and Catskill areas of New York. Successful applicants will perform key inspection functions on diverse construction activities including highways, bridges and utilities.

The role offers a competitive salary ranging from $25.00 to $70.00 per hour, alongside a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

Job description

Tectonic is currently seeking full-time Construction Inspectors and Engineers to work on upcoming projects in the Hudson Valley and Catskill areas, including Rockland, Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, Columbia, Sullivan and Delaware Counties. These positions offer a competitive salary and benefits package, and opportunities to work on challenging and exciting projects.

Essential Functions

  • Performs construction inspection to observe work in progress on various projects, which may involve highways, bridges, street and structural work, including elements such as: sewers, catch basins and connections, drainage, water mains, utilities, curbs, sidewalks, roadways, mill and fill, structural steel and concrete, pile driving, railroads, traffic and street lights, street appurtenances, and associated work;
  • Monitor contractor’s daily activities and uses applicable field testing and inspection procedures and equipment to perform required field testing to determine compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles;
  • Preparation of daily field reports, including communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives;
  • Interpretation of drawings and documents, including work orders and build documents;
  • Follows project safety protocol;
  • All related duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.


Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess at least one of the following AND a High School Diploma/equivalent:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent or Higher in Engineering;
    • Valid NICET Level II or Higher;
    • Any other suitable combination of education, training, or experience will be considered;
  • Relevant work experience is strongly preferred;
  • Basic understanding and ability to interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents for work orders and build documents;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, supervisors, and inspectors regarding specifications and qualification test results;
  • Detail-oriented, with capability to detect non-conformities during testing procedures and complete detailed reports within a timely manner;
  • Valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites, as regular daily travel is required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:

  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time;
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections;
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception; and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.


Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines.The physical demands described above are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate’s work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $70.00 / hour
