Job summary

Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is seeking a Construction Inspector – Building to inspect residential, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes. The role includes educating property owners, tenants, engineers, contractors, and the public on building regulations and safety, and using a county laptop for reporting.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with related experience; preference for 3+ years in construction

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience (building construction, building inspections).
• Prefers 3+ years of building construction experience; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; working knowledge of the VUSBC and ANSI; ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents.

Responsibilities

• Perform responsible Building inspections of Residential, Commercial, or Industrial construction projects for compliance with applicable National, State and Local Code requirements.
• Perform Project Research and data entry for documenting inspection results in the County’s computer-based program.
• Assist customers in navigating the different processes required for inspecting construction-related projects.
