Job summary

Ramos Consulting Services, now part of Colliers Engineering & Design, seeks a Construction Inspector to support LAWA's civil inspection within the Capital Improvement Program. You will inspect reinforced concrete structures, roadways, bridges, and utilities across Los Angeles jurisdictions.

Ideal candidates will have extensive Caltrans/LA standards experience, Cal-OSHA training, and PMIS proficiency, documenting daily activities and assisting with progress payments while collaborating with a

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of inspection experience on Caltrans bridge, roadway and structure projects, or 10 years as a Superintendent.
• Minimum 10 years in public works field inspection with heavy civil/roadway focus, or 10 years as a Superintendent on Caltrans bridges/structures.
• Current City of Los Angeles Deputy Inspector Licenses; Grading, or Post Tensioning.
• Caltrans test method certifications in 100, 200, 300, and 500 series desired.
• 30-hour Cal-OSHA training within last 4 years.
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Proven expertise in sewer and storm drain inspection, utility infrastructure, and traffic control measures.
• Strong knowledge of City/County/Caltrans Standards.
• Proficient in reviewing project plans, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Proficient with PMIS for inspection reporting and document control.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of major reinforced concrete structures, piles, roadways, and bridges across LA jurisdictions.
• Inspect sanitary sewer and storm drain installations per LA standards.
• Inspect street lighting and traffic signal installations per LADOT/LAWA standards.
• Apply City/LA Standard Plans and Greenbook specifications.
• Apply Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications.
• Ensure compliance with traffic control plans with emphasis on pedestrian safety.
• Enforce Cal-OSHA, contractor safety requirements.
• Prepare daily inspection reports detailing activities, issues, and safety concerns.
• Assist in reviewing Contractor’s monthly progress payments based on value of work.
• Collaborate with a large team of Inspectors.

We are seeking an Construction Inspector to support LAWA's civil construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA's Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of major reinforced concrete structures including pile foundations, roadways, and bridges across multiple jurisdictions.
• Conduct inspections for the installation of sanitary sewer systems and storm drains, including related structures, in accordance with City and County of Los Angeles Standards.
• Perform inspections for the installation of street lighting and traffic signal systems, following the specifications set by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
• Apply extensive knowledge of City of Los Angeles Standard Plans/Specifications and the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).
• Apply extensive knowledge of Caltrans construction Standard Plans and Specifications.
• Ensure compliance with multi-phased, site-specific traffic control plans, with a strong emphasis on pedestrian safety and routing.
• Apply knowledge of and enforce Cal-OSHA, Contractor’s and LAWA safety requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly and concisely documents observed construction activities and identifies issues, deficiencies, and safety concerns in a timely manner.
• Assist in reviewing and approving Contractor’s monthly progress payment request based onwork completed and approved schedule of values.
• Collaborate professionally within a large team of Inspectors.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience performing inspection of Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structure projects, or a minimum of 10 years experience as a Superintendent on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structures projects.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in public works field inspection, with a focus on heavy civil and roadway construction, or a minimum of 10 years experience as a Superintendent on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structures projects.
• Current City of Los Angeles Deputy Inspector Licenses; Grading, or Post Tensioning (Pre-Stressed).
• Current Caltrans test method certifications in 100, 200, 300, and 500 series desired.
• 30‑hour Cal-OSHA training prior to assignment. Must have been received within the last 4 years.
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Proven expertise in the installation and inspection of sewer and storm drain systems, utility infrastructure, and traffic control measures.
• Strong working knowledge of City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles and Caltrans Standards.
• Computer Proficiency - Utilize electronic equipment to review project plans and contract documents including RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Working and operational knowledge of Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) used for inspection reporting and document control.
• Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Pro, PM Web, Bluebeam, ProCore, etc.
• Ability to work effectively and communicate in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $125,000 to $135,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
