Job summary

Ramos CS, now part of Colliers Engineering & Design, seeks an Electrical/IT Inspector to support LAWA's capital program. You will conduct daily inspections of electrical and IT systems on terminal projects, review drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders, and ensure compliance with NEC and LAWA standards.

The role requires 3+ years of electrical/IT inspection experience, ICC certification, and up-to-date NFPA 70E and Cal-OSHA 30-hour training.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of electrical/IT inspection experience on building construction.
  • ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector certification.
  • NFPA 70E training within the last 3 years.
  • Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors and city officials on large projects.

Overview

We are seeking an Electrical/IT Inspector to support LAWA's electrical construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.

Perform inspections of electrical installations including, but not limited to:

  • Underground utilities and duct banks.
  • High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels.
  • Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems.
  • Interior and exterior lighting systems.
  • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems.
  • Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination.

Perform inspections of IT infrastructure installations such as:

  • Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control).
  • Door card readers, security cameras, and public address systems (P.A.) systems.
  • Communication cabling and equipment rooms.
Qualifications
  • Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction.
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector.
  • Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
  • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years.
  • Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72.
  • Fall protection and harness training.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings.
  • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.
  • Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
  • Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.
  • A strong understanding of diverse code requirements.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.).
  • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $135,000 to $155,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
