Job summary

ATI, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector for a full-time, on-site role on a government project in Yorktown, VA. The CI will monitor daily construction activities, verify compliance with contract documents, and maintain detailed project records to support contract administration.

  • Prior experience as a Construction Inspector on a U.S. Coast Guard project within the last 10 years.

ATI is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector (CI) to provide full‑time, on‑site inspection and documentation for a government project. The CI will monitor daily construction activities, verify compliance with contract documents, support contract administration, and maintain detailed project records. This position serves as an advisor to the Government’s project team and does not direct contractor means or methods.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Construction Inspector
  • Meeting participation: Attend pre‑construction, QC, and progress meetings; record minutes as directed.
  • Contract document review: Analyze plans/specs and recommend construction changes, including cost and schedule impacts.
  • Schedule oversight: Review and comment on baseline and updated progress schedules, including network diagrams.
  • Daily site inspection: Perform daily surveillance; document findings; sign, scan, archive, and monthly‑copy DCRs; report non‑compliant work.
  • Field testing verification: Witness field tests, review reports, and maintain a log of all contract‑required tests.
  • Survey oversight: Monitor layout/elevation surveys; verify accuracy of contractor as‑built drawings.
  • Submittal tracking: Maintain submittal logs and UniFormat‑organized filing systems.
  • Safety monitoring: Notify PCC of safety violations within authority limits; escalade severe or repeated issues to COR.
  • Site access coordination: Coordinate passes, outages, excavations, hauling, and delivery routes on USCG property.
  • Payment verification: Review payment requests and certified payrolls; verify quantities, materials, and labor; initial all submissions.
  • Schedule update review: Evaluate accuracy of contractor schedule updates.
  • Daily diary maintenance: Maintain a bound Inspector’s Daily Diary; deliver complete diary to KO at project closeout.
  • Project file management: Maintain organized files for correspondence, schedules, reports, RFIs, changes, and contract documents; archive electronically and copy to CD‑ROM at completion.
  • Claims/dispute notification: Notify KO (via COR/PM) of potential claims; review PCC requests for time/price adjustments.
  • Photo documentation: Maintain photographic records of progress and issues; include dated/captioned photos in weekly reports.
  • Weekly reporting: Submit weekly progress reports with minimum four photos; archive and CD‑ROM copy at project completion.
  • Final inspection support: Comment on readiness for final inspection; participate in walkthroughs; assist with punch lists and verification of corrections.
  • As‑built verification: Confirm weekly accuracy of contractor as‑builts; document findings in weekly reports.
  • O&M/manual review: Review installation instructions and O&M manuals for contract compliance.
  • Labor standards compliance: Review certified payrolls; conduct monthly labor interviews; submit SF‑1445 forms.
  • On‑site inspection coverage
Candidates must meet one of the following:
  • 10+ years construction experience (QA/QC, superintendent, safety, or management) with strong reporting and computer skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field + 5 years construction experience; PE, PMP, or QA/QC certification preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Construction Inspector on a U.S. Coast Guard project within the last 10 years.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, climb, stoop, lift 50 lbs, and work in tunnels, basements, roofs, ladders, and adverse weather. Must tolerate noise, dust, confined spaces, and active construction environments.

    • Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
    • National Electric Code (NFPA 70)
    • Plumbing (IPC)
    • Fire Protection Systems (NFPA 13 & 72)
    • HVAC/TAB (ASHRAE/AABC/NEBB)
    • Building Commissioning
    • Communications & Security (IT, Nurse Call/Code Blue, Imaging & IDS/PACS)
    • Transport/Equipment (Patient Lifts, Elevators, Transport Systems, Pneumatic Tube, Food Service, Sterilizers, Mortuary, & Laboratory)
    • Welding Inspection
    • Painting and Metalizing Inspection
    • Environmental HAZWOPER, site sampling

Pay Range: $120,000 - $140,000/year depending on experience

Location: Yorktown, VA

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours – Monday – Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
