Job summary

Arcadis U.S.Inc. seeks a Construction Inspector to support NYC Parks across the five boroughs. This full-time role focuses on tree preservation and urban forestry projects, with potential overtime based on project needs.

You will perform on-site inspections, measure quantities, monitor contractor work, and liaise with city agencies and residents to ensure safety and compliance. A strong civil engineering foundation and field experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of related experience in construction and/or civil engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • OSHA 10 Certification is preferred.
  • EIT Certification is preferred.
  • Experience with capital contract supervision or restoration oversight is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections, supervise construction activities, ensure site safety and permit compliance.
  • Monitor contractor performance and responsiveness; ensure technical requirements.
  • Perform on-site measurements, track quantities, and discuss updates with contractors.
  • Report to resident engineer, project lead, and supervising PE.

Role Description

Do you enjoy working outdoors and contributing to community efforts that make the world greener? We are seeking a Construction Inspector to join our team and work on projects for NYC Parks throughout the five boroughs. This full‑time position includes intermittent opportunities for overtime, and you will use your technical knowledge to guide the City’s tree preservation and street tree programs. As you grow with us, you may also be involved in other NYC Parks programs and City agencies focused on urban forests and natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Conduct daily inspections, supervise, and control construction activities to ensure site safety, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies.
  • Monitor and supervise contractor performance to ensure adherence to technical requirements and maintain a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness.
  • Perform on‑site measurements, track quantities, and conduct design work before and during construction. Discuss measurement updates with contractors to keep all parties in agreement.
  • Report regularly to the resident engineer, project lead, and supervising professional engineer (PE) to keep decision makers informed.
  • Participate in a green infrastructure mentorship program to gain knowledge and skills related to environmentally friendly construction practices.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and expert tracking records.
  • Verify quantities and line items in the field with contractors and client.
  • Attend and hold field meetings with contractors and owners to discuss progress, schedule, and remaining work.
  • Act as an ambassador for the city’s urban forest resources during interactions with residents and landowners.
  • Administer all H&S procedures as required by the owner and as detailed in the H&S manual.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of related experience in construction and/or civil engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with capital contract supervision oversight.
  • Experience in construction or restoration oversight.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • EIT Certification.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater field.

Compensation

Salary range: $32.00 - $32.50 per hour. Actual salaries will vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
