Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed inspections of ongoing construction activities, focusing on heavy earthwork operations such as excavation, grading, and soil compaction.
  • Verify that all construction work meets approved plans, specifications, and engineering standards.
  • Monitor the implementation of construction drawings.
  • Identify and document any deviations or non‑conformance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and standards on the construction site.
  • Conduct regular safety audits.
  • Assist in tracking project timelines and milestones.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to construction crews.
  • Work closely with the Resident Engineer, Chief Inspector, site superintendent, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of transportation construction experience, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (or equivalent work experience), and proven experience as a Civil Inspector/Engineer with a focus on heavy highway work.
  • Familiarity with local construction codes, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines, and strong knowledge of civil engineering principles related to earthworks construction and site development.
  • Attention to detail, a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, the ability to work outdoors and handle the physical demands of a construction site, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Position requires successfully passing drug‑screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing.

Primary Location: United States – New York – Purchase. Other Locations: United States – New York – Albany; United States – New Jersey – Woodcliff Lake.
