Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Construction Inspector ensures compliance with plans and specifications for city construction projects, including paving, drainage, and utility activities. The role involves monitoring quality control, safety, and adherence to standards, conducting inspections independently according to department regulations and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact for permitted infrastructure construction projects.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders, including contractors, utility companies, and public agencies.
  • Interpret and enforce plans, standards, and regulations.
  • Conduct site inspections, monitor safety and quality, and issue stop work orders when necessary.
  • Coordinate testing, final inspections, and project documentation.
  • Manage communication with residents and stakeholders regarding construction activities.
  • Assist in resolving design and construction issues through meetings and reports.
  • Maintain inspection records and use software tools such as Blue Beam and EnerGov.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and ADA standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, vocational/technical training, and five years of related experience.
  • Preferred: TCEQ Water - Class C Distribution License and/or TCEQ Wastewater - Class II Collection License.
  • Must pass drug screening and background check.
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Physical and Work Environment

Tasks require physical effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, construction hazards, and traffic. Frequent travel to various sites is expected.
