Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Highway Construction Inspector for our Albuquerque, NM office. Be involved in projects with our Project Management/Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Perform construction inspection and observation of highway and/or bridge construction work for compliance with NMDOT, Municipality, County, and Tribal plans, specifications, and contract documents. Work includes inspection of earthwork, hot mix asphalt, concrete structures, placements, base course, subgrade, guardrail, culverts, drainage structures, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, signals, striping, utilities, and traffic control.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to verify contract compliance.
  • Prepare daily work reports and maintain documentation of contractor work performed. Observe and perform materials testing and inspect traffic control based on construction plans and specifications. Use SiteManager Construction Management System, spreadsheets, or other means to document activities.
  • Perform sampling and testing of concrete in conformance with NMDOT and other specifications and procedures.
  • Perform moisture/density testing of soils, base course, and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) using a portable moisture/density gauge.
  • Sample soils, base course, aggregates, and HMA in conformance with specifications and procedures.
  • Document work item quantities accepted for payment; report pay quantities using electronic means and review reports and documentation.
  • Verify contractor compliance with safety procedures; inspect and document traffic control setups.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in construction, inspection, or testing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with construction codes, regulations, compliance, and record-keeping.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, follow instructions, and adhere to policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Analytical skills for sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and tools.
  • Ability to provide clear feedback and ensure tasks are completed safely and accurately.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in concrete, hot-mix, soils, traffic control, and testing by ACNM/NMDOT TTCP.
  • ACI Certification.
  • PCI Certification.
