Job summary

JGM is seeking a dependable Firewatch to support hot work operations on active structural steel erection sites nationwide. You will stay near welders and burners, keep a charged extinguisher nearby, and maintain unwavering focus to prevent fires during welding, cutting, and grinding.

You will travel between active job sites across the country, verify area clearance, report unsafe conditions, and help enforce the site’s fire prevention plan. Training toward OSHA certifications is provided.

Qualifications

• OSHA 10 preferred (OSHA 30 a plus for more experienced candidates); JGM will support certification for the right candidate without one.
• Comfortable standing, observing, and remaining vigilant for extended periods in an active industrial environment.
• Willing and able to travel 100% of the time, including extended overnight and multi-week assignments away from home.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous observation of all hot work as per OSHA and JGM fire prevention plan.
• Verify work area is clear of combustibles before hot work begins and monitor areas where sparks could travel.
• Keep a charged fire extinguisher within reach and know how to use it immediately.
• Stop work and alert the crew at the first fire hazard or ignition.
• Remain watchful after hot work concludes for smoldering material or delayed ignition.
• Complete and sign hot work permits, JSAs, and fire watch logs for each operation.
