Job summary

Grassi & Co., CPA's P.C. is seeking an Assistant Controller in Elmont, NY to oversee corporate and project accounting, payroll, and accounts payable.

This hands-on role ensures accurate, timely processing, reconciliation, and financial reporting across the organization, including the day-to-day close and staff supervision. You will partner with the Corporate Controller, HR, and Project Management to optimize cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5–7 years progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in construction.
• Experience with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and % of completion revenue.
• Experience with month-end and year-end close, and financial statements.
• Knowledge of payroll, AP/AR, GL and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage corporate accounting operations, including AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and month-/year-end closes.
• Oversee project accounting, job cost, WIP, and percentage-of-completion reporting.
• Supervise project profitability reporting, contract billing, change orders, and retainage.
• Analyze cost-to-completion, billing, and projected revenue to evaluate profitability.
• Partner with project managers on requisitions, cost issues, margin risks, and variances.
• Support cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting at company and project levels.
• Oversee payroll administration, taxes, and compliance; coordinate with HR.
• Coordinate with auditors and tax advisors; ensure internal controls improvements.
