Job summary

Valor Contracting is seeking a Traveling Field Engineer to oversee site activities at a large datacenter project near Mandan, ND. You will support project managers and superintendents, coordinate field operations, and ensure compliance with safety and design standards.

The role requires a two-year construction credential or four years of relevant experience, valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel up to 100% with per diem provisions and a company vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Excel and construction management software is preferred.

  • Review drawings, manage electronic documents, and coordinate RFIs and reports.

About the Role

The Traveling Field Engineer will help oversee site activities, ensuring compliance with construction standards, quality, and safety. In this role, you will assist our project managers and superintendents in coordinating efforts and managing site operations.

Position Logistics
  • Work Environment: On‑Site
  • Location & Project Information: This will be a large datacenter project located near Mandan, ND
  • Work Schedule: 50 hours / week or based on project schedule needs. Opportunities to travel to additional project sites may be available.
  • Work Type: Full Time
  • Travel Details: This is a traveling position (up to 100%), where you will be located onsite at a project location for the duration of the project. Per diem will be provided for those traveling greater than 75 miles from their home address. This position will be eligible for routine travel home. A company vehicle will be provided.
Position Responsibilities
  • Participate in plan reviews and assist with site logistics, phasing, and field kick‑off preparation.
  • Ensure readiness of preconstruction elements including codes, schedules, safety requirements, and documentation.
  • Communicate project schedules and maintain the 3‑week lookahead to support proactive planning.
  • Monitor on‑site construction activities for compliance with design specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Support field operations and assist with subcontractor coordination, including prep meetings, QA/QC, and delivery management.
  • Contribute to punch list development and completion, as well as final close‑out documentation.
  • Review drawings and specifications; manage electronic documents and uploads.
  • Coordinate RFIs, daily reports, project photos, and maintain SWPPP, HAZCOM, signage, hot work permits, and safety plans.
  • Assist with material procurement, purchasing, cost coding, and reporting of cost history data.
  • Ensure jobsite safety compliance, including signage, emergency contacts, and required supplies.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with craft professionals, subcontractors, owners, and design teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • All employees are responsible for the general upkeep of work and shared spaces.
  • Punctual and regular attendance is required of all employees.

  • Exhibits a self‑starting mindset with the ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and proactively seek solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Possesses strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), and demonstrates a willingness to learn and adapt to construction management software and digital tools.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in construction management or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of construction experience is required. In lieu of a degree, four (4) years of relevant construction experience is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Forklift Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification & OSHA 10 preferred.
