Job summary

Valor Contracting is seeking a Field Engineer to oversee field activities on a large datacenter project near Bismarck, ND. You will assist project managers and superintendents, coordinating site logistics, safety, quality, and documentation to ensure project success.

The role offers a 50-hour work week, potential travel to other sites, and involvement in plan reviews, QA/QC, and material coordination. A strong team focus and proactive problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in construction management or 2+ years construction experience required.
  • In lieu of degree, 4+ years construction experience accepted.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan reviews and site logistics coordination; prep for field kick-off.
  • Ensure readiness of preconstruction items: codes, schedules, safety docs.
  • Maintain 3-week lookahead and communicate schedules to teams.
  • Monitor on-site activities for compliance with design and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors; lead QA/QC and delivery management.
  • Maintain drawings, specs, RFIs, daily reports, safety plans.
  • Assist with procurement, cost coding, and cost history data.
  • Support safety and foster relationships with craft professionals and owners.

About the Role

The Field Engineer will help oversee site activities, ensuring compliance with construction standards, quality, and safety. In this role, you will assist our project managers and superintendents in coordinating efforts and managing site operations.

Position Logistics
  • Project Type & Location:This will be a large datacenter project located near Bismarck, ND
  • Work Schedule: 50 hours / week or based on project schedule needs. Opportunities to travel to additional project sites may be available.
  • Work Type: Full Time, Non-exempt
Position Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Participate in plan reviews and assist with site logistics, phasing, and field kick-off preparation.
  • Ensure readiness of preconstruction elements including codes, schedules, safety requirements, and documentation.
  • Communicate project schedules and maintain the 3-week lookahead to support proactive planning.

Field Execution & Oversight

  • Monitor on-site construction activities for compliance with design specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Support field operations and assist with subcontractor coordination, including prep meetings, QA/QC, and delivery management.
  • Contribute to punch list development and completion, as well as final close-out documentation.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Review drawings and specifications; manage electronic documents and uploads.
  • Coordinate RFIs, daily reports, project photos, and maintain SWPPP, HAZCOM, signage, hot work permits, and safety plans.

Cost & Resource Management

  • Assist with material procurement, purchasing, cost coding, and reporting of cost history data.

Safety & Relationship Building

  • Ensure jobsite safety compliance, including signage, emergency contacts, and required supplies.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with craft professionals, subcontractors, owners, and design teams.

General Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Exhibits a self-starting mindset with the ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and proactively seek solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Possesses strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), and demonstrates a willingness to learn and adapt to construction management software and digital tools.
Qualifications
  • An associate’s degree in construction management or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of construction experience is required. In lieu of a degree, four (4) years of relevant construction experience is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required
